Water softener not working? We will tell you honestly whether it is worth fixing. For $89 a Praz Pure Water technician comes to your home or business, tests your water, inspects the system and gives you a firm price to repair it. If the smarter move is a new system, the $89 comes off the price. We have been treating Los Angeles water for over 20 years from our shop in Burbank.
Signs your water softener needs service
| What you notice | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| White spots and scale are back | Exhausted resin, or the system is not regenerating |
| Salt level never goes down | Salt bridge or a blocked brine line |
| Water tastes salty | Brine not rinsing out after regeneration |
| Unit runs or drains constantly | Stuck or worn control valve |
| Low water pressure in the house | Clogged resin bed or failed internal parts |
| Water on the floor around the tank | Leaking fitting, seal or cracked tank |
These are the usual causes. The diagnostic visit confirms which one it is before you spend anything on parts.

Repair or replace?
Nobody wants to pay for a repair on a system that fails again next year, or replace one that only needed a small part. This is how we call it:
Usually worth repairing
The system is under about six years old, it softened well until recently, and one part has failed — a seal, a motor, an injector or a blocked brine line.
Usually better replaced
The system is 6 to 10 years old or more, it needs new resin and a new valve together, parts are no longer made, or it has leaked from the tank.
Wrong system for the home
It was never sized for your water use, or it has no protection against chloramine. A correctly sized softener or a softener and filter package fixes the cause.
Credited in full toward a new Praz system if you replace within 30 days.

Frequently asked questions
How much does water softener repair cost in Los Angeles?
It depends on what has failed. We start with an $89 diagnostic visit: we test your water, inspect the system and give you a firm repair price before any work begins. If you decide to replace the system with a new Praz softener within 30 days, the $89 comes off the price.
Should I repair or replace my water softener?
As a rule of thumb, a softener under about six years old with a single failed part is usually worth repairing. An older system, one that needs new resin and a new valve together, or one that was never sized correctly for the home is usually better replaced. We tell you which it is after we have tested the water and inspected the system.
How do I know my water softener is not working?
The common signs are white spots returning on glasses and fixtures, soap that will not lather, stiff laundry, salty-tasting water, a salt level that never drops, a tank that keeps running or regenerating, or water around the unit.
Do you repair water softeners you did not install?
Yes. Our diagnostic visit covers most residential and commercial softeners, whoever installed them. If a part for your system is no longer available, we will tell you during the visit rather than guess.
Is the $89 diagnostic fee refundable?
It is credited in full toward a new Praz system if you choose to replace within 30 days of the visit. It is not credited toward a repair, because the visit and testing are part of that work.
How long does a water softener last?
In Los Angeles most water softeners last around 6 to 10 years. Our water is hard and treated with chloramine, which is tough on resin and seals. Regular service is what gets a system to the upper end of that range.
Do you service reverse osmosis systems too?
Yes. We service and replace filters and membranes on under-sink reverse osmosis systems and can check yours during the same visit.
Do you offer ongoing service plans?
Yes. For systems we install we offer service plans that cover maintenance, checkups and salt delivery, so the softener keeps working without you having to think about it.
